Hi Beachman, I too am interested in a bit more about your statement, “About 85-95% of our investments are in long term, high conviction holdings.” Are these separate investments from what’s tracked in this newsletter? The reason I’m interested is that I am realizing I weighted far too heavily on riskier investments. I took a huge loss, but still hold many. I am looking for some help on transitioning to high conviction foundational stocks for the long term. I’m caught between missing out on rebounds, and being too inexperienced to determine what investments will lay a solid, high conviction foundation that I won’t stress over. Any further suggestions?

I want to add more about when to buy in to a new stock in today’s market. The short of it is that there is no right answer because markets have not picked a consistent trend in 2023. They have been trading in a range for several months now.

So we do not know if we will get better prices soon because we do not know if markets will dip or go higher.

So for stocks that I want to own….I leg in slowly…e.g. I have bought MNDY in multiple small tranches on down days even higher than my preferred $119 buy point.

Another tip: Take a look valuation levels that I post in the Google file. I use those valuation metrics to decide when I am comfortable buying a stock. E.g. right now MNDY is nicely valued imo.

Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi TF - My high conviction LT investments are exactly the stocks that you see in the portfolio file on this substack. Check out the Google file under the Portfolio section.

I have been writing about these stocks and why I own them in posts like this one:

More to come in future posts on this.

Apart from the stocks that you see in my portfolio, I also have some Vanguard index funds. They are in a tax free account where I cannot own stocks. So I stick with low cost Vanguard index funds. That target allocation is 70% US (40% large cap, 15% mid cap, 15% small cap) and 30% international.

Hope this makes sense. Reach out anytime if you have more questions.

Hi Beachman

Can I ask you if you own any bond funds in your retirement account such as those low cost Vanguard ones ?

Hi Herman....no I do not own any bond funds in my retirement account. I am considering TLT for parking some cash from the 2023 gains. Have not fully decided yet.

The reason why I do not directly hold bond funds is because my 3-5 year savings account is fully invested in bonds via a whole life insurance policy cash value that I can withdraw from anytime and that continues to earn dividends and grow each year. So in my net worth, I already have a reasonable sized bond allocation.

hope this helps.

Delayed thanks for your response

? are you considering TLT for taxable money account

Yes I am considering TLT for my portfolio and am looking for an entry point closer to $100. I think it has about 20% appreciation potential by end 2024. Not as much return potential as growth stocks over that timeframe, however interest rates are expected to start dropping in 2024. Rates will drop quicker than they were raised since early 2022...so TLT could rise pretty fast once it gets going.

Hi, thanks. Is there already a post where you elaborate on the "Retirement Investing" layer?

Thanks!

Most of what I publish on this substack is on the retirement investing layer as well as on the riskier investing layer.

Below are some specific posts that might give you a good starting point.
